HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 18, 2014 – Affresco, a new collection of one-of-a-kind rugs from Natuzzi Italia, takes the best of the past and recreates it for today. Each vintage, hand-knotted wool and cotton rug is salt-washed to remove its original colors and then over dyed in Natural, Brown, Grey Black, Burgundy and Blue Grey to create unique, original compositions.
“The juxtaposition of an antique rug with a new color is stunning,” says Hugh Landes, brand manager for Natuzzi Italia. “Since we are recycling vintage rugs, no two patterns are alike. And while the general color palettes are fairly constant, there will always be slight variations in hue.”
The original hand-knotted patterns – just barely visible – add dimension and depth to each rug. Occasionally lightly distressed by hand to enhance the vintage appeal, the 9-foot by 16-foot rugs are the largest Natuzzi Italia offers.
“A beautiful rug sets the stage for a well-designed room by both softening and enlivening it,” Landes says. “Whether you love the drama of Burgundy or Blue Grey, the sophistication of Grey Black, the earthiness of Brown or the simplicity of Natural, each Affresco rug honors unique craftsmanship of the weaver who created it.”
