G. ALEXANDER BERNHARDT NAMED TO AMERICAN FURNITURE HALL OF FAME
October 24, 2011 – LENOIR, NC - At ceremonies Sunday night coinciding with the start of the Fall Furniture Market in High Point (N.C.), Alex Bernhardt, Sr., became the newest inductee into the American Furniture Hall of Fame.
The honor, bestowed by the American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation, recognizes individuals whose outstanding achievements have contributed to the continued growth and development of the U.S. furniture industry.
Mr. Bernhardt has presided over an era of significant growth for Bernhardt Furniture, Inc., the company founded by his grandfather in 1889. Moreover, he has played an ongoing role in Western North Carolina civic activities for more than four decades.
Bernhardt was selected from among a slate of six candidates nominated by members of the American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation. His selection as this year's inductee was based in part on member votes, and in part on a rating process conducted by the Foundation's Industry Fellow Selection Committee. The committee's rating criteria for each nominee included enduring excellence, superior accomplishments, innovation and creativity, and philanthropic generosity.
