A Fresh, New Take on Children’s Furniture with Premier Collection by Kenneth Cobonpue
New York, NY (May 23, 2017) – Premiere Filipino designer Kenneth Cobonpue returns to ICFF with yet another powerful showing by the master craftsman who, TIME Magazine spiritedly anointed “rattan’s first virtuoso”.
Representing the latest from Cobonpue’s eponymous label, this year’s display will include several pieces launched to popular applause at the most recent Salone del Mobile. Among them: the Peacock chair, with its sinuous rattan “plumage;” the intricately stringed Ringo end table; and the oceanic Nori, a Salago fiber-wrapped series of metal screens evoking the growth pattern of natural seaweed.
Visitors can also look forward to a newly launched capsule collection of children’s furniture. From the Babar—an elephantine desk complete with outsize corkboard ears—to the Lasso, where little ones can nestle to sleep under a winging stork—Cobonpue exemplifies his well-known knack for yielding unexpected forms from natural materials.
Though here, of course, that penchant is inflected with a resolutely light-hearted twist—offering a “return to my childhood fantasies,” says Cobonpue, and a reinvigorating breath into the conventionally predictable children’s category. “I wanted to create furniture that would invite children to let their imaginations run wild.”
These, alongside a selection of Cobonpue’s classic offerings, can be found at Level 3, Booth #2127.
